 Medications We Prescribe

Responsible Prescribing

The role of medication in treating psychiatric conditions is to manage symptoms, improve quality of life, and facilitate recovery. With hundreds of medications available, each serving different purposes, our providers are experts in understanding the indications, benefits, potential risks, and alternatives to each medication. We are committed to prescribing medication responsibly and safely, ensuring the use of appropriate dosages, monitoring necessary lab work when needed, and vigilantly checking for side effects.

Psychiatrists at Psynoptic utilize FDA-approved medications, adhering to the highest standards of care and safety. However, we recognize that certain situations may warrant the off-label use of a medication — a practice we approach with expertise, understanding precisely when such an approach is appropriate. Our knowledge and experience enable us to make informed decisions tailored to each patient's unique needs, ensuring the best possible outcomes in their treatment journey.

Importantly, our approach is grounded in collaboration and respect for your autonomy. We will never force medication upon you. Instead, we work with you as a team to decide the most suitable treatment path. Your input and comfort with your treatment plan are paramount to us, ensuring that any decisions made are mutually agreed upon and aligned with your values and preferences. Our goal is to empower you in your treatment journey, providing expert guidance while honoring your choices and agency every step of the way.

Psychotropic Medications

Our Policy on Controlled Substances

In the treatment of certain disorders, such as using benzodiazepines for anxiety and stimulant medication for ADHD, it's important to recognize that these medications are classified as controlled substances. This classification is due to the significant risks they carry, including the potential for dependence and inappropriate use. For this reason, our providers consider the use of these controlled substances only after alternative treatment options have been explored and found inadequate, and when their use is clinically indicated for the patient's condition.

We adhere to strict guidelines and policies regarding the prescription of controlled substances, particularly in a telehealth setting. These policies are in place to ensure patient safety and compliance with regulatory standards, and they may limit a provider's ability to prescribe these medications during telehealth appointments. It's also important to note that policies regarding the prescribing of controlled substances through telehealth are subject to change in response to evolving regulations and best practices.

Our commitment to your health and safety guides our cautious and thoughtful approach to the use of any medication, including controlled substances.
